First Saab 9-4X Rolls Off Production Line

The first Saab 9-4X crossover to be commercially produced has now rolled off the assembly line at the Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.
Saab Automobile President & CEO Jan Åke Jonsson was on hand to see regular production begin, just three months after the 9-4X was unveiled last November at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. Jonsson was joined by Executive Director Vehicle Lines Anders Svensson and 9-4X Product Manager Mikael Jacobsson.

The first vehicle - chassis number 00001 - an Ice Pearl metallic Aero model with a 2.8V6 turbo engine, is bound for a media test drive event in the United States before being shipped to Sweden for display at the Saab car museum.

“This is a great day for Saab,” said Jonsson. “The arrival of the 9-4X is another important step in the fulfillment of our business plan. This sporty and distinctive product will significantly broaden the appeal of our brand and give us access to an important new vehicle segment that is still growing, particularly in the United States.”

Featuring Saab’s advanced XWD all-wheel-drive system and adaptive chassis control, the 9-4X goes on sale in the United States in May, with sales in Europe and other world markets scheduled to begin from August.

    Does it have 2 different kinds of wheels or is it just due to camera angel?

    Bring it to South Africa. Me, I want one and a whole lot of our rainbow nation will buy it! Especially something that was not around during the "apartheids" years.

    My husband and I are filled with excitement about the 9-4x. I can't wait for it to come to our area so we can test drive it and prayerfully become owners of one in Diamond Silver or Cobalt Grey with the 9 spoke Manoogian Silver 20x8 wheels. Believe me, I look at it on iPhone app everyday. :) Great job, Saab!!!! Love it!!!

    Years ago, Saabs were described as cars built by aircraft engineers who had never seen a car.

    I'm looking forward to an SUV built the same way. Go SAAB!

    Dear Saab;

    As a former quality assurance inspector, I researched Saab vehicles and read every article I could find regarding the vehicles. Safety and efficiency come to mind first. Perhaps this year will be THE year I can see about a Saab car of our own. "I'ts a SAAB dream" Is there any way to botain a printed,English version of the 01 and 02 SAAB magazines. I love the newsletter and continued success. I can't wait to get my hands on several Saab brochures. Thanks very much! Dave Earnhart

    I am sure my comment will not be posted cause this is just a happy PR BS site, however you should know that I only have 1 93 08 aero left. All of my cars have been replaced with VOLVO and will continue to do so until SAAB gets its act togeather and gives us a car we can be proud of. Not some over priced Caddy rip off suv. I had a 97x WHAT A PIECE OF TRASH
